Great hole in the wall with a large variety of food choices. I highly recommend the salsa and chips. Son had southern sausage sandwich. Wife had great BLT and I had a smothered burrito that was amazing.

My wife and I decided to stop at Dick's for lunch today. We both had the green chile cheesburger with fries. Both of our lunches were good, but we have had better green chile cheeseburgers at at least 3 other locations. The burger is definitely of a good quality. Since I am not a big fan of mustard on hamburgers, that was also a minor deduction. Service was very good. Would return.

3 diners and we all had the Green Chili Cheese Burger. Hamburger was cooked good and very flavorful, was recommended by our waitress. Came with real homemade fries which were fine. Late afternoon and not busy. the waitress was friendly, and kept our drinks filled. the other waitress looked like a advertisement for a tattoo and piercing parlor, with face piercing, they would have ruined my appetite. I would have gone someplace else to eat. We felt it was a bit pricey for the offerings.

There was a dead bird when me and my uncle showed up in the car lot and this was my first time, inside was nice. Horrible coffee, long service, There were 3 to 5 employee's just hanging out talking, while there was just me and my uncle sitting there waiting for our food, by the time I got my omelet, Too greasy and knew something was wrong with the food products on my plates. I would never go back to this place again. Almost got food poisoning. I'm not sure if there's State Food Inspection.

What stops a guy from Yelping? Oh I don't know... maybe just trying to complete a Master's degree and having a couple of kids. I've eaten here a couple times over the past year but never got around to writing a review. So... here goes! Service: 3/5 It's a cozy little place, come in and seat yourself. Only problem with that is it takes a while for someone to "find" you and get the ball rolling. Both times we had to wait a while before someone came by to get us drinks, etc. Also another big deal for me these days... working high chairs! I can't tell you how many places don't have high chairs with working restraints. Add Dick's to that list. Meal service was satisfactory, but as also is typical, keeping our water glasses full was apparently a challenge. Food: 3/5 It's typical diner fare, and normally I would totally endorse a local place like this over chains such as Denny's. But overall the food really isn't that much better. I had a hamburger on my first visit, Mexican food on my second. Both times I was just unimpressed. It was decent food, but nothing to write home about, nothing that would make me want to come back. Of the two the burger was better. The Mexican combo plate was barely above "frozen food" level and their "famous" salsa falls in the "hot with no flavor" category for me, which is a personal pet peeve. I don't mind salsa with kick, but it has to have flavor and not just heat... which is what this was. So overall, just good but not great. Overall Impressions: 3/5 "Good but not great," that pretty much sums up everything about Dick's for me. The food is ok, the service was ok, the value is ok. You won't feel ripped off, but you won't exactly feel like you got your money's worth either. It's a decent place to grab a burger, but there's nothing about it that will have you coming back for more, at least not in my opinion. But I suppose you could do a lot worse... like Denny's. :P

Friendly folks great food. Old school the only way to eat. Green chile is fantastic. Should be a regular stop. Local folks.

Went to Dick's around 10 on a Sunday morning: dirty dishes everywhere, wait staff doing their best to keep up but clearly a few folks called in "sick" on this Labor day weekend. Ordered Huevos Rancheros with red sauce, I got meat on mine, dh did not. His looked really good, eggs done correctly. Mine was tortilla and egg topped with a mass of watery red chile meat and the plate had water up to the brim. Maybe some red sauce in there but I couldn't tell. Tasted the meat: strange flavor. Sent it back and got the plate w/o meat. The waitress was great, got it out in good time, we had to ask for the flour tortillas that come with it, but other than that she was holding her own. Red sauce had a ketchup taste, I've had lots better. Food: 2/5, overall, 2/5, Kudos to the waitress, hope she gets a job someplace where the food and management are as good as she is.

I've been traveling over a week with my dad and uncle across the country and we tend to favor local places over the big chains. I saw Dicks Cafe had decent reviews so we stopped in. Our server was quiet but not rude, just a little reserved. She was completely gorgeous. In fact all of the staff looked like models. My father and uncle loved their steaks and they were reasonably priced. I ordered a ham and cheese grilled sandwich and fries. To explain, my two star review is due to a lack of service. When their steaks came out without my sandwich I thought maybe she couldn't carry all three plates. Then she stopped at two more tables and I was a little confused. She came back a few minutes later and said my sandwich would be a few minutes. About five plus minutes later I had a grilled cheese in front of me. She apologized for the wait and left. I discovered there was no ham in my sandwich and I asked my father if I made a mistake and ordered a grilled cheese. He said no I ordered the ham and cheese. A few minutes passed and she hadn't stopped back to check on us so my dad flagged her down. She asked if I wanted ham and I said it was alright. I had already waited long enough for my meal and everyone else was more than halfway through theirs. She really didn't offer any kind of explanation. She just said "okay" and walked off. I am a bartender/server myself and I know how annoying guests can be but I was a little put off by her lack of caring. I'm assuming she forgot to put in my order so when the steaks came up she realized and I had to wait while they cooked my food after the steaks were on the table. I wasn't offered anything, I'm not the type of person looking for a discount and I would've declined because I know mistakes happen. What bothered me because I wasn't even offered one. I guess it's just possible that the level of service I am accustomed to giving for my own job is not the standard here. In any event the steaks were pretty good, according to my dad and uncle, the fries were tasty, the grilled cheese was just a regular sandwich that I can't really rave about, and I assume the service is hit or miss.

4 stars only because of outdated decor. But, the attentive & friendly staff more than make up for it!! I had a great pulled pork sandwich with a sweet sauce & my husband had a cheeseburger with great homemade fries. Yelp has been very helpful on this trip did finding great lunch stops.

This turned out to be a good stop for us because of the varied menu and quick cooks. The interior is cheerful and clean. Kinda weird that there are ads on the table tops though. I have to admit that I almost walked out because the servers took so long to greet me. When she finally came over, she apologized and explained that the recent lunch rush had thrown the servers for a loop. The "red" enchiladas were good (very spicy) and the club sandwich was decent. They were able to grill a chicken breast separately for my son. Unfortunately, the complimentary salsa was too spicy for my taste. However, my husband enjoined dipping the complimentary chips in his enchilada. The only real downer was the fries. The were floppy. My son wouldn't even eat them. Other than that, I'm glad we stopped in.

If you are going to get a green chile cheeseburger anywhere in the country, this is the place to go. Dick's Cafe is a classic hole-in-the-wall with amazing food. If you are in or near Las Cruces, you cannot miss eating here.

We absolutely enjoyed this place. Some of us had burgers and some had Mexican. All was fantastic. Don't pay attention to the looks outside the food was great. Very pleasant waitress. She was very helpful brought sample of enchilada sauce to make up our mind which one to order. Will definitely return on another trip thru Las Cruces. We recommend this experience.

Went for breakfast. Food was really good. Service was kind of slow but did not hold that too much against them will return.

This place left a bad taste in my mouth. *cymbal crash* (Also, I can't believe no one made that joke before I did.) I show up and there is a table smack dab in the middle of the restaurant with three employee's sitting at it. They stare at me. It's like a Quentin Tarantino movie. I finally ask for a menu. Another employee hands me a menu. I order a cheeseburger, dry (without mayo). She hooks me up with some hot sauce and chips. The hot sauce is HOT - and awesome. The burger arrives - dry, like bone dry, like without vegetables - and is just meh. It's greasy and kind of dry at the same time. The fries are meh. The whole thing, minus the hot sauce, is meh.

Most Americans love a good burger now and then. Here is a place that finally delivers on a big and tasty burger. You have to watch what you ask for though on your food, because they will do just that. They start you out with some chips and hot salsa. Aye, it's hot. Hotter then American hot. This is good average Mexican hot with some decent flavor to it. When you order your food though, watch how you order it. You order it dry. It will be dry. If however you ask them for a nice big jumbo size juicy burger with all the trimmings and a bit 'O mayo. You'll see why this place just doesn't have enough parking spaces. To many people love their food and for good reason. Down home waitresses, a bit slow on service. Might have to fight for a parking space. All in all, you'll be rolling out of the joint with a satisfied grin on your face.

Nice little surprise- not where I intended to eat but found this close to my hotel -my service was great- salsa was awesome - server suggested green chili burger with bacon- hot fresh - outstanding! If I had to suggest anything- change out the lighting- (my pupils dialated when i walked in) florescent ain't cutting it- and I guess change the bun- although grilled - it ended up a soft big ole mess for that burger goodness. May see you for breakfast!

We go here often for breakfast. The burritos are great and priced well. I do have to say, that no matter how many times we have eaten there, they have yet to get our order right. But since whatever we get ends up tasting great, we just don't care.

Fun place. Very "old school" diner feel to it. Staff and service was excellent. The Hamburgers and oninio rings I ordered were very tasty and good. The menu is varied, and contains many "comfort" foods. Would like to go back and try breakfast there.

Dive. Yes in fact it is a dive. It's been around forever and it is reputed for it's amazingly greasy burgers and fries (and if that's what you want, it's a good place for it). The services also tends to suck. I do have to say their salsa is pretty fantastic and they are certainly not skimpy on the portions. Their ingredients are fresh and they do everything in house so their patties are not frozen circles of meat they throw on the grill. You can get green chili on just about everything here. However, nothing about this place is going to land it on "Diners Drive-Ins and Dives" because when it comes down to it, it's really just okay.

Dick's Cafe is a typical greasy spoon cafe. Standard local fare along with American favorites. Their burgers are excellent as are their fries. Unlike Day's burgers "patties", the meat at Dick's is actually visible to the unaided human eye. One of the best things about Dick's is the waitresses. They aren't the most efficient in the business, they are just college girls trying to make some money, not professionals. And most of them are pretty cute. Dick's has some of the best burgers in town, if that's your thing.

One of the very BEST burgers that I have ever had! Awesome onion rings too! Generous portions and tasty freshness! The only drawback was the crappy 30 minutes I sat waiting for a server. Once she arrived, SHE had an attitude, perhaps because I pointed out the half our wait. I was starving though, like famished, so that manyana stuff wasnt flying with my hunger..lol! It was worth the wait for such delicious food! Stop by for a burger here guys, you wont regret it :)

This is the ultimate hamburger and New Mexican food dive that's been around since 1959. Their homemade hot salsa ranks up there as one of the best I've had and their Jumbo Green Chili Cheeseburgers and Fries will keep you full until you make it to wherever you're going. In my case today it was a 6 hour road-trip to Phoenix! Their burgers patties are freshly ground with their own recipe and the green chili is out of this world. Las Cruces and Mesilla Valley have the best tasting green chili on the planet, without a doubt! I've previously recommended this place to a friend driving from Phoenix to the Southeast Coast and he actually changed his route to try it out. He came back thrilled and said it was well worth the stop. Truckers, students, families, and tourist all find dickscafe.net the best hamburger joint in the Southwest.

Dick's is pretty run-of-the-mill if you ask me. It's good, but it's not great. Not that there are a lot of choices for food in Las Cruces. Not only that, but I don't eat burgers, so maybe that's my beef with the place.

Everything is really good! Especially the green chile cheese burgers and fries.

You cant go wrong with a Big Dick burger w/ special sauce. Hottest damn salsa in town too. Gawd I love that place.

The best thing that ever happened to Dick's was when the original location burned to the ground a few years ago and they rebuilt. If you think the place is a dive now, you should have seen the original place! The service is not predictable. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's just plain terrible. The food is not great, but if you are hungry for a cheap burger or New Mexican fare with big portions that won't make you sick, this is an OK place to go to. Sorry I can't be any more enthusiastic about this place than that.

Went back here this weekend with a large group after being away from Las Cruces for years and years and was definitely not impressed. The waitress was completely rude, and not at all willing to be helpful- we couldn't get breakfast because by the time she got around to taking our order it was 11:03 and "BREAKFAST ENDS AT 11", apparently adding something as ridiculous as chicken to an enchilada is beyond unreasonable, etc. etc. Their mexican food is disappointing, probably should have stuck to burgers, or (better yet) gone to one of the many other fantastic places in town-

Dick's reminds me of my parent's truck stop restaurant where I grew up. It's pretty good food. Not the greatest, but the price is right. Good New Mex food and a very good green chile cheeseburger.

I have been meaning to stop in here for quite awhile and finally made the trip. All in all, I found the place to be OK. The food was decent, not outstanding, but OK. The service seemed to be a little on the slow side of the spectrum, but the people there were friendly. I might go back, but there are better places to eat in the Las Cruces area.

Oh my goodness...YUM! This visit to the Las Cruces Dick's Cafe location totally made up for the horrible experience I had at the Mesilla location a couple months back. These burgers are definitely in their own category...nothing touches their flavor or their size. We could have split our burgers and left completely satisfied. I had to pack up half my burger and fries since I was so stuffed. They use fresh potatoes for their fries. They managed to have terrific service even during their busy lunch rush. They even entertained my son as we ate so we could enjoy our meals. The owner's of this restaurant also own the Dick's Cafe in Mesilla, and the 2 Chilito's Mexican Restaraunt locations in Las Cruces. Thumbs up!

We decided to check this place out today after driving by several times and seeing many cars in the lot. The service we got was very good...the food was average, nothing special. You won't leave there hungry especially if you order a burger. Would we go back....probably not.

A great little hole in wall kind of place! I never stray from the cheeseburger with green chili, it is awesome! Love the free chips and Dicks signature salsa, it never disappoints. Get here early for lunch, it gets packed real quick! Service is fast, but doesn't taste like fast food! You won't be disappointed!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
